- Curriculum Writing Retreat
Are you a K-12 educator who integrates neuroscience with your equity work and into your curriculum? The Visionary Change Agent Institute welcomes educators at advanced stages in their journey to join us in this important work. Our week-long curriculum writing retreat offers tools and resources for educators to co-create a curriculum that works for your school. The focus will be to incorporate five concepts: multidimensional identity as strength, belonging unlocks the learning brain, narrative shapes yesterday, today and the future, systems are purposely designed, and understanding to action, into all subjects, especially social studies and language arts. The week's framework pulls from national standards in social studies, social and emotional learning competencies from the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL), Social Justice and Teaching Hard History standards from Learning for Justice, Dr. Gholdy Muhammed's work in her books about cultivating genius and joy in education, and lessons from The Pulitzer Center, Facing History and Ourselves, and Learning for Justice. Each day incorporates down time and opportunities for different types of self-care. The facilitators and presenters for the week are Dr. Tameka Hobbs, Cassie Koscianski, and Lily Medina. Let us support you in creating a more inclusive educational environment for your students. Join us as we work towards a more equitable world together, one where we will encourage and inspire visionary change agents world-wide.
